Proficiency & Mastery
Proficiency & Mastery (transcript)

Proficiency and mastery are two terms frequently used in education. Often these terms are applied to a student after the completion of a singular assessment or standardized test. Once this level has been attained, in many instances the learning is not reinforced or further opportunities to “practice” using the knowledge, skills, or competencies provided. If we do not practice, it can be difficult to access this personal knowledge when needed either later in schooling or in the world beyond the classroom. Jay McTighe shares a valuable analogy connecting student learning to preparing for a game. - Dr. David Reese, Ed. D.
